Jesus Wept-But Can You Weep like Him?

Jesus wept not because it was too late to wake Lazarus up. He did know what to do. He knew He could raise him up but still wept. John 11:35. How can someone who knew what to do weep in a circumstance as Jesus did?

When we lose somebody to death, we cry, we can’t imagine life without them, and we desperately want them back. We knew separation has happened with no remedy.

One thing Jesus showed us in this situation was that He was a man, a man with flesh and blood like us. It validates Him as a man, fully man since spirit doesn’t weep. Romans 5:19, Hebrews 4:15.

And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death– even death on a cross! Philippians 2:8(NIV)

Another thing expressed by Jesus was that He empathized with Lazarus’ family seeing the pain death can cause and can cause to people. Death ruins family and relationship. And knowing that He has come to abolish death and destroy the power of death, He could not hold back the tears when He saw others crying. He was a man of like passions. No wonder he was called a man of Sorrows. Isaiah 53:3.

Other time Jesus wept was when he wept over the city of Jerusalem. He wept over their rejection of Him as their saviour. He wept for the destruction that will befall them in the future. It was out of compassion because He is not willing that any should perish. 1 Timothy 2:3-6, Luke 19:41, Luke 13: 34-35.

IMPORTANCE OF EMOTIONS

Jesus was emotional because he was fully man. Emotions are a blessing to mankind, not a curse. Without it, there can be no love, kindness, sympathy, empathy, etc. Although it can be used negatively as anger, wickedness, bitterness, revenge, rage, etc. Jesus never used His emotions negatively on people but rather positively to help. Likewise, He always wants us as His followers to show POSITIVE emotions. Matthew 5:4.

Continue to remember those in prison as if you were together with them in prison and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering. Hebrews 13:3(NIV)

Paul admonished us in like manner in Romans 12:15

Job expressed positive emotion in Job 30:25,

Job friends expressed theirs in Job 2: 11

Solomon exhortation in Ecclesiastes 3 :4

PROFESSIONAL MOURNERS ARE DIFFERENT

There are professional mourners. They do it for business. We are not talking of professional mourners, who are hired to fake cry. They cry but offers no solution. We still have them today just like Jesus days. Jesus knew them so each time he entered a house to perform miracles He always gets the professional weepers out of the way, because they are fake and distractions. Mark 5:38-40. A true believer must be a true mourner.

JESUS WAS MOVED BY LOVE

Love is the motivation behind every action taken by Jesus. He was always moved with compassion. He is love personified. He is in life with God and mankind. Love makes one a compassionate person. You can’t be walking in love and be discriminative of other people’s class, race, gender, and creed. To be like Jesus, we must also walk in love.

THE THREE FACES OF LOVE

1. GOD.  This is an act of devotion to God in relationship and service. If we understand His love towards us, we will know that He deserves our love. Unparallel love that sacrificed His Son for human salvation. The love that bestows mercy, grace, and prosperity to mankind. Matt 22: 38, Mark 12:30

2. OTHERS.  Loving others is another requirement from God. But if a man does not love God, how can he live other people like him genuinely?  John 11:5, 35-36, John 13:1, Psalms 142:4, John 5:5-9, Matt 25:40, We are talking of practically love and desire to help the needy, destitute, poor, widows, fatherless, orphans, etc. Appreciate others by caring and support them within your capacity and the grace available to you.

3. YOURSELF.  Appreciate yourself, respect yourself, have self-worth. Your worth is not in what you have but who you are in Christ.1Tim 4:12. Psalm 8:4-8, Matt 22:39, Luke 12:15, you are bought with a price. You worth so much that Christ has to die for you.

May the grace to walk in love like Jesus be upon every one of us.

Stay Blessed.
