How do I know I’m being Tempted? Part 1(Introduction)

Welcome to this new series of teachings. I believe it’s imperative for us as Christians to understand the scourge of temptation. Many mighty has fallen! The likes of Samson, Abraham, David, Adam have been brought low to their knees by falling into it. We have all fell at one point or the other. Our actions and reactions during temptation will determine the success of our Christian journey and ultimately the conclusion of it. The journey of temptation is a shared drive, but we differ by individual approach and confrontation with it. God advises us to be knowledgeable about this.

1 Cor 10:13 (NLT) Therefore, rejoice, O heavens! And you who live in the heavens, rejoice! But terror will come on the earth and the sea, for the devil has come down to you in great anger, knowing that he has little time.”

To start with, the temptation is like school we have enrolled into as believers, but without graduation in this world. We are being tempted daily. That is why Apostle Paul says, ‘ I die daily‘(1 Cor 15:31). If you overcome one, another one is next door. We can never get to a point where we will outgrow temptation. In fact the higher the level we go spiritually, the stronger the desperate of Satan to throw his weapons. Only Heaven is void of temptation. The fall into it has wrecked family and marriages, caused dishonour and disrepute to its victims, caused untimely death and shattered many dreams, and so on.

2 Samuel 1:27 (NLT) Oh, how the mighty heroes have fallen! Stripped of their weapons, they lie dead.

We cannot do justice to this teaching by not resolving the following;

Who is the tempter?

Why am I tempted?

It will be of necessity to articulate that, Satan is the author of Temptation. Temptation can come outrightly or occurs during divine testing or trials. His intentions is to prove to God that our professed love for Him is merely for material and physical possessions; as He did with Job (Job 1:9-12), or to make us sway away from the instructions of God, that will lead us to fall short of the glorification of God (Rom 3:23).

James 1:13 (KJV) Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:

The objective of temptation is to cause our disobedience to God.
As it happened to Adam and Eve but failed to do the same with Jesus (Matt 16:23). It is not a sin to be tempted but becomes a sin when we give in. An attempt of temptation could be inconspicuous, often times it is subtle and deceptive. God warns us to be on guard and be knowledgeable about Satanic practices and craft. You are being tempted because you bear a glorious destiny enviable of Satan. Satan wants company in Hell. Bible says his time is short. He is poised to take as many as possible with him. You shall not go down into his traps in Jesus name.

Revelation 12:12 (NLT) Therefore, rejoice, O heavens! And you who live in the heavens, rejoice! But terror will come on the earth and the sea, for the devil has come down to you in great anger, knowing that he has little time.”

Satan is never an omnipresent being. He cannot be in difference places at the same time as God. But he operates with a system. They are his method of operation and governance. We are told 1/3 of the angels fell with him. Therefore he’s got many cohorts to send on errands (Rev 12:4). These demons as they are called, are strategically allocated to every single person on earth, this is how the exchange of information is performed. Let’s not forget that God also assigned angels to His children. We can say, the devil is always a copycat! The demons are positioned to influence our thoughts, emotions and activities.

James 1:14 (NIV) but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed.

As I round up this part 1, can I say to you that there is no excuse for ignorance? Ignorance is a luxury you cannot afford. It is possible to be on the brink of temptation and not knowing. That is why we all demand to be on guard and harness any information that would expose his wiles and devices.

2 Cor 2:11(NIV) in order that Satan might not outwit us. For we are not unaware of his schemes.

I will continue this series in the next post.
Part 2 will expose all satanic weapons of warfare and mass destructions

Stay blessed.

  1. Excellent advice. We need to be aware that nothing Satan offers us is ever good. We need to be on guard at all times if we want to live the life that God has planned for us.

  2. Excellent post! Temptations occur everywhere and so we have to be on guard ALL THE TIME! That’s why it’s important to know the Bible and live it out, that way, we’re less susceptible to giving in. Thanks for sharing and looking forward to reading part 2!
