The idea of heaven has been misinterpreted and misconstrued even in the Christian circles. It was presented as elusive, unpredictable and unsure for believers. The idea that is totally unscriptural. As a result, many live their lives in fear and trepidation. If you have assurance of your salvation, why not that of going to heaven? You claim that you are a child of God or born again, but you can’t a make bold statement that you are heaven bound.
Let me start by saying that many will be in heaven contrary to what is being presented to us. I believe the DEATH and the SACRIFICE of Jesus will be disastrous if Satan wins in the end. I believe God always win. I believe He made a successful prediction as all-knowing God to have sacrificed His only begotten son……He saw the victory before the foundation of the world.
After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands. Revelation 7:9
Now coming back to the idea of heaven. There is no place in the bible where believers prayed to make it to heaven. You know why? Because they knew they were already in heaven. You don’t go by prayers, it is by faith in the death, burial and resurrection of Christ.
There is nowhere in the bible the apostles and believers prayed concerning heaven. Instead they believed they are already in heaven as believers in Christ. Like Apostle Paul, he made it clear that he was a stranger on earth on a pilgrimage journey to meet with God.
If the word of God (Bible) is truly word of God, we must believe it in totality. We should believe the Apostles as our forerunners in faith. Because they all lived in the consciousness that they were seated in heaven or going to heaven after their death. Apostle Paul was full of confidence of meeting with the Lord. If they were mortal men of like passions like us, why are we shying away from that belief. I don’t get it.
In fact, we are confident, and we would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord. 2 Corinthians 5:8 (CSB)
Funny enough, when a believer died, the living always quick to say ” He/She is now in heaven”. Whereas when such people were on earth, they themselves lived their lives in doubt of going to heaven.
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day–and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing. 2 Timothy 4:7-8 (NIV)
The day you declare Jesus as your Lord and Saviour is the day you become the national of heaven. When we die physically we only change our location from earth to heaven-our real HOME
The Holy Spirit in the spirit of a believer is the one that connects him or her to heaven. Holy Spirit will bear with your spirit that you are a child of God. Even though you are on earth, the real you is in Heaven. You are a citizen of heaven. You only lose your citizenship the day you renounce Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour.
Talking about citizenship. It was the word used in the bible to qualify us as believers. But do you know how ironic and ignorant it will sound as a person if you don’t know your nationality? How can you follow the process of your naturalization and still doubt it? Well, even if you doubt it, it won’t change the fact.
I believe many will get to heaven and will have to forgive themselves to have lived their lives in fear and doubt of making it to heaven. No wonder, the scriptures talked about tears shall be wiped away from our eyes at some point in heaven. I believe this will be one of the reasons.
He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” Revelation 21:4 (NIV)
I believe the fear factor is not the best way to preach the Gospel. I believe the moment believers in Christ have the consciousness that they are sure of heaven as citizens of Heaven (as mentioned by the word of God) they will live right in accordance to the values of the kingdom of God. Fear will not let people to serve God with genuine heart. THERE IS NO FEAR IN LOVE because FEAR TORMENTS.
The consciousness of heaven and faith in Christ helped the Apostles to die for what they believed. They did not love their life even when faced with death. Someone like Stephen saw heaven opened up to him- to receive him when he was being stoned (Acts 7:55) He was a believer like us.
God is not an author of confusion. He is very open to His children through the scriptures for them to know WHO THEY ARE, WHOSE THEY ARE and WHAT THEY HAVE. And we must take Him by His word even as being expressed by the early believers.
If the Spirit bears with our spirits that we are the children of God, and God is our Father, then where are we? Heaven or Hell? Where your father is, is where you belong. Hold your breath and meditate on this TRUTH. Not knowing or believing this truth is like someone embarking on a journey you don’t know the destination. Believers don’t live for chance but by faith in what God promises.
Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God’s people and also members of his household. Ephesians 2:19 (NIV)
The Apostles made it known to the believers that they are strangers on earth in other to give them the consciousness of heaven. Because this will help them change their values from earthly to heavenly. 1 Pet 2:11-12. They never scared them of how hard it is to get to heaven. Instead they make it clear that they belong to God and heaven.
Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Colossians 3:1 (NIV)
This is the new creation realities.
