The seeking, saving, Saviour

To sum up the whole scriptures in the Bible, in a nutshell, I will say; it is a story of a LOVING FATHER who seeks the salvation of his lost children. This aspect of God must never be overlooked and de-emphasized. The sovereign God makes the determination to go after the lost souls. Many people regularly say they found God, after being born again. Many believers sometimes use the phrase, ‘when I found God’. The truth is, it is God that found them. God has never been lost. We are the ones who are lost. It is God that initiates salvation, but He never determined the number of people that will be preserved, as the Calvinist professed. Indeed, salvation is available to all mankind. But as many as would have Jesus as their Savior shall be saved. The grace for salvation has appeared to all of the humanity.

EZE 34:15-16 15 (NIV) I will tend my sheep and have them lie down, declares the Sovereign LORD. 16 I will search for the lost and bring back the strays. I will bind up the injured and strengthen the weak, but the sleek and the strong I will destroy. I will shepherd the flock with justice.

Speaking about the initiatives of God. It was God who initiated the creation of mankind(Gen 1:26). Likewise, It was He who was looking and searching for Adam and Eve after they dropped the ball (Gen 3:9). Left to them, they wanted to take to the woods and hide forever. Just like today, many are seemingly hiding from God, so to speak. It is unimaginable what people had executed in the dark as well in the open as if God cannot see them.  Concerning Adam, despite what they did, God as a loving father still calls out to Adam and Eve in their concealment. Which affirms the merciful spirit of God. Otherwise, He could have left them alone. The type of which we saw in the Chronicle of the prodigal son in the Bible. When the father was the first to run to the lost son and welcomed him back to his warm arms back home with a kiss.

Romans 3:11-18
11 there is no one who understands;
there is no one who seeks God.
12 All have turned away,
they have together become worthless;
there is no one who does good,
not even one.”[a]
13 “Their throats are open graves;
their tongues practice deceit.”[b]
“The poison of vipers is on their lips.”[c]
14 “Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness.”[d]
15 “Their feet are swift to shed blood;
16 ruin and misery mark their ways,
17 and the way of peace they do not know.”[e]
18 “There is no fear of God before their eyes.”[f]

The condition of the heart of man after sin was so rebellious that he would never conceive of going back to God if God has not made the first move.
Because the consequence of sin has devastated the whole mankind. The book of Ephesians chapter 4 verses 17th states that the hearts of men are futile, alien from the aliveness of God, blind, lewd, greedy, and darkened. Evidently becomes self-centered, determined to be autonomous of the leadership of God. God later referred to it as desperately wicked and beyond remedy.

Jer 17:9 The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?

With this kind of hearts, it becomes imperative for God to start seeking and wanting the man back. Otherwise, He would lose us forever. Salvation is a story of second chance. I always tell people that no one has any right to blame Adam again, for turning over the sinful nature to us. Because we have been granted another opportunity through Jesus Christ as a way of escape. Enough of the blame game. God gives every generation a fair chance to recognise and worship Him.

Matt 18:11 (KJV) “For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost.”

Having said that, we must reciprocate the passion of God toward us by seeking Him. Every soul must look for the Lord.  Jesus died on the cross for all men to be redeemed. He is the pure offering for our redemption.

Heb 10:14. For by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy.

Are you reading this, and you are not yet born again; please give your life to Jesus by confessing your sins and declare Him as your Lord and saviour, and continue to serve Him. God can’t wait to have you back to the fold of His faithful children. He is waiting with an open arm.

Isa 30:18a. Yet the LORD longs to be gracious to you…

As a believer, knowing that you start your journey of salvation by seeking and believing Him, you must continue to explore Him. Seeking His thoughts, and will, throughout our lives. That is what the loving father required of every one of us. And we must join Him in the search for those that are lost, having given us the ministry of reconciliation.
