There are three principles I discovered that was applied when Lazarus was sick and eventually contributed to being raised from the dead.
John 11:1-3 (NLT) A man named Lazarus was sick. He lived in Bethany with his sisters, Mary and Martha. 2 This is the Mary who later poured the expensive perfume on the Lord’s feet and wiped them with her hair.[a] Her brother, Lazarus, was sick. 3 So the two sisters sent a message to Jesus telling him, “Lord, your dear friend is very sick.”
From the above scriptures, these three principles below were applied;
1. The power of relationship with Jesus.
2. The power of Faith
3. The power of Petition / Prayer
THE POWER OF RELATIONSHIP
From the Bible we understand that Lazarus was Jesus friend. As friends, they must have shared thoughts, idea, passion, food, and many other things together. It was as a result of this closeness that this family was able to approach Jesus for help.
Like Lazarus, your relationship with Jesus is very vital. You must not allow anything or anyone to come in between. It is a relationship that must be guarded jealously. Sin must be avoided and must not be tolerated. It is a major factor that affects the relationship negatively.
Prov 14:34(NIV) Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin condemns any people.
Our relationships will always determine our experiences. The popular saying is, ‘ show me your friends and I’ll tell you who you are’. If your friendship with people are not productive, you need to beware. Friendship should be a blessing, helping each others to achieve goals.
THE POWER OF FAITH
When Lazarus was sick, this family has faith in Jesus. They must have heard and seen Jesus done many miracles . They believed if He has done it for others theirs also is possible. They have the right mentality.
Heb 11:6. And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.
The Bible says without faith it is impossible to please God. If there is anything not pleasing to God, it is when we approach him without faith. Your continuous belief that God can do it always make it happen. Hold on to your faith in God, don’t quit, never doubt.
THE POWER OF PETITION/PRAYER
While Lazarus was sick, the family petitioned Jesus for healing. They are not murmuring or grumbling. Murmuring is not the same as praying. Lazarus and his family would have stayed in their house complaining about why Lazarus was sick, and remains sick being a friend to Jesus. The moment Jesus was informed, he already put them in mind. In other words, he marked the visitation in his diary. Many assume because they are believers, God should know their needs and plight. Of course He knows, but He still want you to tell him. When you tell him, it shows how much you need that thing.
Phil 4:6 (NLT) Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.
