Deputy Foreign Minister Tzipi Hotovely apologized for comments she made Wednesday about American Jews.

Hotovely’s office released a statement on Thursday in which she said that she did not mean to offend anyone.

“To all American lone soldiers who had grandparents who fought in the Second World War, I salute you all,” she said.

Hotovely made the statements in an interview with i24NEWS on Wednesday.

“People that never send their children to fight for their country, most of the Jews don’t have children serving as soldiers, going to the Marines, going to Afghanistan, or to Iraq,” she said. “Most of them are having quite convenient lives. They don’t feel how it feels to be attacked by rockets, and I think part of it is to actually experience what Israel is dealing with on a daily basis.”

The comments were met with criticism from many leaders and politicians, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
