Don’t Get Involved in Premature Celebrations

I returned and saw under the Sun, that no footballer/team celebrate until they score or win. Athletes are taught their whole lives to carry on running through the finish line, but few had been a victim of celebrating prematurely, only to find out they never score/win. They are impatient to wait till  the  ball crosses the goal line or declare a scorer/winner by the referees/umpires. Beware of people who overly celebrate your achievement by making you feel you’ve arrived. They could either be flatterers, men pleasers or using you for their advantage( Gal.1:10). Don’t let people overly celebrate you prematurely. Neither celebrate too early yourself…..when things are coming together for you, learn to stay humble.

Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself to have attained this. Instead, I am single-minded: Forgetting the things that are behind and reaching out for the things that are ahead, Phil 3:13(NET)

Regardless of what you have achieved so far, be it spiritually or physically, there are many more you can still achieve.  At old age, God  told Joshua, he can still achieve much more. When Joshua had grown old, the LORD said to him, “You are now very old, and there are still very large areas of land to be taken over (Jos 13:1). At the age of 85 yrs old, Caleb was still fired up to fight in a battle (Jos 14: 11-14). Likewise oftentimes, Jesus refused people from announcing His  achievement to others( Mark 7:36, Matt 8:4, Luke 5:14). A way of  avoiding  people celebrating Him too early. At a point they were so excited that they wanted to make Him their KING, but He refused and WITHDREW Himself from such people (John 6:15). Jesus knew that His race was not finished until crucifixion and resurrection.

When the people saw the sign that Jesus had performed, they began to say, “Truly this is the prophet who is to come into the world.” 15. Realizing they were about to come and make Him king by force, Jesus withdrew again to a mountain by Himself. John 6:14-15(BS)

But when the right time came, lo and behold, he accepted the celebration and honour.  On His way to the cross, He was HIGHLY CELEBRATED and He never stopped them. That time, He was a moment away from finishing His course and mission on earth. He delightfully made a MAJESTIC entry to Jerusalem and the whole city went agog.  Matt 21:8-10

On the other hand, David fell into this trap, he was celebrated by women after his victory over Goliath. Of course he was not part of the crowd chanting the songs,  but maybe he could have stopped them one way or the other, or made his case known to King Saul of his discontentment about the songs .  Since this celebration was done prematurely, it stirred up the anger of his boss, King Saul. David’s victory over Goliath was a stepping stone to the PALACE (place of destiny), and need not to be overly celebrated until he ascends the throne.  Premature celebration could be inciting or create unnecessary attention to yourself.

It happened as they were coming, when David returned from killing the Philistine, that the women came out of all the cities of Israel, singing and dancing, to meet King Saul, with tambourines, with joy and with musical instruments. 7 The women sang as they played, and said, “Saul has slain his thousands, And David his ten thousands.”8 Then Saul became very angry, for this saying displeased him; and he said, “They have ascribed to David ten thousands, but to me they have ascribed thousands. Now what more can he have but the kingdom?”…1 Sam 18: 6-8.

What am I saying here, am I saying its not good to receive compliment from people? No, No, No! Rather I want you to know that there is always room for improvement no matter your achievement. The compliment of men should be taking lightly and not to be taken as if you’ve arrived. Let it be a MOTIVATION to improve more on yourself to be much more better . The race is not finished until you breathe your last breath. You have not arrived, you are still on a journey !
