Take Responsibility for Your Life

To be born into this life is to be born into responsibility. This was made clear when God created the first man (Adam), in no time, He gave him a responsibility; the naming of the animals and replenishing of the earth. The life given to him is not for him to be expecting God doing everything for him. Therefore, to enjoy  life, value must be placed on responsibility. Blaming others outside yourself will never be of any help to you. Please note : We directly or indirectly played a role in whatever happen to us in life… actively or passively.  Don’t live your life at the mercy of other people. It has been said that, MANY PEOPLE ARE WAITING ON GOD TO DO SOMETHING WHEN GOD IS WAITING ON THEM’.

WE ALL HAVE THE FOLLOWING RESPONSIBILITY TO TAKE:

  1. Responsibility to God (Service, Worship, Relationship)

You and I have a responsibility to know God and His ways, have relationship with Him and to be subservient to His orders. For us to be effective on this, we would have to sacrifice our time, energy and resources.  We are to honour and have fellowship with our creator. Romans 1:25

  1. Responsibility to Yourself (Well-being,Career.Goals,Self-development)

You may not be responsible to your birth, but you may be responsible for your death. God never determines anyone’s life span. Neither does He determine where, when and how we die. Of course, God is omniscient.  He does know where, when and how we die (Psalms 139:1-6). To then say He was the cause of everyone born into this world is to see God as a killer. You will then have to prove to me how HE (GOD) was involved in suicide and murder, foolish decisions, bad habits (Lung cancer through smoking, accident caused by reckless driving caused by being drunk), unhealthy lifestyle, that led to many people’s deaths.Therefore, to believe the notion that God has set a particular time or day for each person to die, is to live your life to FATE.

LONG LIFE IS OUR HERITAGE IN CHRIST

YOU CAN LIVE LONG BY LIVING A PURPOSEFUL LIFE :  You are responsible to live a purposeful and goal-driven life. Don’t live your life to chance by saying what will be will be. The Bible says without vision people run wild (Proverbs 29:18). It’s like playing a football game without a goal post. God wants us to finish our course or destiny on earth (2 Timothy 4:7b).The pursuit of vision is a driving force that keeps our souls and bodies reinvigorating.

YOU CAN PROLONG YOUR YEARS BY HONOURING YOUR PARENTS: God commands the Children of Israel to Honour their parents (Old Testaments believers) and the same was echoed in Pauline writings in the book of Ephesians (New Testaments believers ). The reward of obeying this divine instructions is longevity. (EPHESIANS 6:2-3 NKJ ) 2 “Honor your father and mother,” which is the first commandment with promise: 3 “that it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth.”

YOU CAN PROLONG YOUR YEARS BY LIVING HEALTHY: Be responsible for whatever goes into your mouth. Your life is a gift but you have to give yourself the responsibility to live well. Someone says HEALTH IS WEALTH. You can prolong your life by living healthy. Discover what food and lifestyle that will keep you healthy, and stick to it. You have only one life to live therefore live it well!

POWER OF CHOICE  CAN CHOOSE LIFE OVER DEATH

Joshua mentioned it to the congregation that choice determines what happen to them which include DEATH.

DEUTERONOMY 30:19 (NKJ)  “I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live;

Paul tells the Church at Philipi that He could make a choice whether to live or die.

PHILIPPIANS 1:21-22(NIV) For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. If I am to go on living in the body, this will mean fruitful labor for me. Yet what shall I choose? I do not know!

Hezekiah chose to prolong his days, despite God already told him he was due to die. He made a choice to pray to God to keep him alive which God did. Imagine, if he had received the message of his death as divine prophecy and do nothing about it. Trust me, he would have died. ( 2 Kings 20:2-6)

 

  1. Responsibility to your Family (Wife, Husband, Children, Parents, etc)

We all have a responsibility to love, provide and care for our wives, husbands, children and relatives. In fact, Paul actually wrote to Timothy to tell other believers under his watch that if anyone failed to provide for his family and relatives, such people has denied the faith and are worse than the unbelievers (1 Timothy 5:8)

  1. Responsibility to Others (Benevolence, Evangelism)

The grace of God bestow on us for salvation must be shared with others to get them saved. We are not to live primarily to ourselves. The salvation of sinners should be a burden to us. We are saved to be a saviour to others by sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ with them.

Philipians 2:4 (NLT) Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.

 

 CONCLUSION :

We must live our lives with responsibility mentality. Not a case of waiting for people or on God until you do anything. When we take action to do the right thing, we receive God’s backing to make it successful. The four lepers outside the gate of Samaria refused to stay in one place and die. Instead,they took a bold step of life and death and it paid off. They entered into a life of abundance just because they took responsibility for their lives. It was after they took the first step that God sounded scary noises in the camp of their enemies. They became unexpected heroes overnight and brought succour and respite to an entire nation. 2 Kings 7:1-16.

6 Things Common to Man

For a start, I think it will interest us to know that number six  is the number that represent man. Man was created on the sixth day and was commanded by God to work for six days and rest on the seventh (Genesis 1:31). Hence informed my curiosity to look for six common factors to every single person on this planet. Trusting that every reader would be able to relate to it and serve as a source of encouragement to them.  Please note that when I say MAN, I mean MANKIND.

 This calls for wisdom: Let the one who has insight calculate the beast’s number, for it is man’s number, and his number is 666. Revelation 13:18 (NET)

6 THINGS COMMON TO MAN

  1. LIFE

 If you are reading this, obviously it’s because you have been given a life to live. Everyone that is alive now and those that have died, enjoyed the gift of life. Nobody preempts his or her birth. The giver of life is God. It is a gift of God, we’ve all enjoyed. It is a one time experience!

Counsel: We all have a great and one opportunity to live for God, fulfil destiny, advance His Kingdom, and make a positive impact in the life of others. So therefore, I’m encouraging you to cherish it and spend it wisely. However, the eternal life  beyond this physical world is available for those who died in CHRIST. My question for you is, ”What do you want to be remembered for?” Or better still, ”What do you think you will be  remembered for?” Think of this everyday and LIVE FOR IT !!

  1. TRIALS

Everyone’s life experiences is not a bed of roses. We all have had it rough at one time or the other. It could be such a time when we experience disappointment, lack, sicknesses, etc….. Nobody is exempted from trials. If Jesus could experience it, we all will! Personally, I have had a fair share of it….and my life journey is still ongoing.

Counsel: No great men and women ever lived went through life without trials. Some overcame, while some got swallowed by it. Whether we all like it or not, our faith, trust, commitment, loyalty to man and God would be tried at one point or the other. Trials are common challenges we shall all face, and I’m yet to see someone without one.

I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.” John 16:33 (NLT)

  1. TEMPTATIONS

The tendencies to do evil or good, to cheat, lie, disloyal, immoral, etc. are embedded in the Adamic nature we all inherited. The world we live is between good and evil, light and darkness, angels and demons and God and Satan. The conflict is between all those and we are all in the middle.

Counsel: Being on the side of God helps us to sail through the opposite without being overcome by them. The Spirit of God in a believer helps to warn and instruct on what to do or not to do. Failure to obey the instructions, by giving in to lust and greed, make one fall into temptation.

The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience.               1 Corinthians10:13a (NLT)

 “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.” Matthew 26:41(NIV)

  1. FAILURES/MISTAKES

I am yet to see someone who has never made a mistake. We’ve all made mistakes in speech and decisions. We all will fail at some point in our life. It is a common phenomenon.

Counsel: Failure should be a learning curve so we can do better next time.. And if you have never failed, it may mean because you have never tried anything. So whenever you experience failure, never think it’s peculiar to you. That is why I want you to know that failure is an event, not a person.

“Jeremiah, say to the people, ‘This is what the LORD says: “‘When people fall down, don’t they get up again? When they discover they’re on the wrong road, don’t they turn back?” Jeremiah 8:4 (NLT)

 “Failure is not the opposite of success, it’s part of success.”

  1. SUCCESSES

The definition of success is subjective to an individual. While many think of success as possessions of private jets, palatial mansions and fancy cars. Although those are good and desirable, but for me success is a completion of a task, achievement of a goal. The question is, is there anyone who has never completed a task in their life?

Counsel: There must have been some sort of fulfillment of a desire that once gave you, excitement, happiness, joy, satisfaction and fulfillment. Whatever that might be, that makes you a success in that area. Also for me, anyone living his or her life for Christ is a successful person; and I believe God sees it that way….material wealth has no treasury value in heaven.

 “Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal. Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break  in and steal”.    Matthew 6:19-20 (NLT) 

  1. DEATH

 Death for everyone of us is inevitable. Death is what most of us don’t like to talk or think about…..but the fact is, we shall all die one day, except for those that would witness the second coming of our Lord Jesus, who would be rapture instead. If that is the case, have you ever thought of where you will spend  your eternity?

Counsel: There are only two destinations after death: ‘ HEAVEN and HELL‘.         Each one of us shall end up in either of them.  However, acceptance of Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour and your continued relationship with God guaranteed your escape from HELL.

And just as each person is destined to die once and after that comes judgment, Hebrews 9:27 (NLT)

In Whom I Am Well Pleased

The love of God transcends human reasoning and understanding. It will take the help of the Holy Spirit to understand the width and depth of it. Nevertheless, we will still be limited in our minds to grasp it all.  Or else, how can God loves everybody and sinners the same. There is nothing we can do to make Him love us the more even as a believer and to unbeliever.

GOD IS LOVE

Love is the nature and character of God. It is who HE is; His love is not depending on who or what we are. His love for us all is unconditional. The love of God to mankind is not a function of what we do and not do. Because it is not an emotional love. God does not start to love believers/Christians, it was out of love that He extends the hands of salvation to them even when they were yet sinners by sending Jesus to die for the sins of the whole world. Come to think of it, how can He hate the works of His hands? All creatures are His handiwork and He loves them dearly!

But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. Romans 5:8 (NLT)

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16 (NIV)

LOVE DON’T STAND ALONE

God loves everybody, because, love doesn’t exist in isolation. You cannot genuinely love someone and the same time lack patience and endurance in dealing with them. The consistency in displaying the spirit of love is dependent on availability of the spirits of patience and endurance. Otherwise, the reciprocation of love will only be to those we received it from. There will not be capacity to love the unlovable and so-called enemies.

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 1 Corinthians 13:4-7(NIV)

THE STORY OF THE PRODIGAL SON

The story of the prodigal son being told by Jesus typifies the nature of God-the heart of a loving father. The story depicts a son that is wayward, unruly, revelry, impatient, covetous, but to mention a few. Despite what the son did, the father still received him back with an open arms and jubilation. Surprisingly, he was restored back to son-ship. A father’s love never dies! (Luke 15:11-32)

God loves people the same, but honour only those who honour Him. Your level of obedience to God determines the level of honour ( rewards) you get from Him.  Honour is a seed for access…. Mike Murdoch

WHAT GOD EXPECTS FROM MANKIND

This is where it gets more interesting. If God loves everybody does it mean we have the freedom to sin or to do what we like? No, Madams! No, sirs! The love of God must be reciprocated. God sows the seed of love so that He may get the harvest of it. Little wonder God says in the scriptures that. ”IF YOU LOVE ME YOU WILL KEEP MY COMMANDMENTS.”(John 14:15-31) Failure to do that we result in you being discounted from His acts of benevolence, and ultimately not making it to heaven, the eternal home of people that are loyal to Him.

IN WHOM I AM WELL PLEASED

God loves everybody and hates nobody; nevertheless hates sins! (Prov 6:16) Therefore, you can either please Him or displease Him. When God is pleased with a man/woman, it means God is pleased with the way such person is living his/her life. It means such person live in the fear of God and obedience to His commands.

The desire of God is to see all men live their lives pleasing Him. It is what differentiates believers from unbelievers, likewise one believer from another. It is a major factor that would determine who will go to HEAVEN or HELL. The question we must all ask ourselves, is, ”AM I LIVING MY LIFE TO PLEASE GOD?” If your answer and mine is YES, then we are in the right part of God. We all must live our lives pleasing God.

SCRIPTURES ON PLEASING GOD

  1. But Abel brought some of the firstborn of his flock–even the fattest of them. And the LORD was pleased with Abel and his offering, Genesis 4:4(NET)

  2. And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased. Hebrews 13:16 (NIV)

  3. For the sake of his great name the LORD will not reject his people, because the LORD was pleased to make you his own. 1 Samuel 12:22 (NIV)

  4. When a man’s ways please the LORD, he makes even his enemies to be at peace with him. Proverbs 16:7 (ESV)

  5. So whether we are here in this body or away from this body, our goal is to please him. 2 Corinthians 5:9 (NLT)

This is my conclusion. The love of God to us all no doubt, is unquestionable. He cannot afford not to love. Because that is who HE is. But to enjoy His blessings and relationship, we must all live our lives to please Him, in faith, reverence, holiness, love, trust and obedience. So that He can say to us all like He said to Jesus, ‘ THIS IS MY BELOVED SON, IN WHOM I AM WELL PLEASED’. (Matthew 3:17)

Seeing God Face to Face

Many don’t believe in God or His existence because they haven’t seen Him. They want to see Him with their physical eyes and touch Him with their hands. Even some Christians are also serving Him blindly. They serve Him as someone worshipping the ‘UNKNOWN GOD’(Acts 17:23). They haven’t come to the level of personal conviction of His existence.

God is not asking for people to see Him before they believe in Him. In fact, He actually said no man will see Him and live. The glory of God is the revelation of God- Seeing His Glory is Seeing Him. His glory  is His creations and the manifestation of His power, i.e Miracles. Like every man’s desire, Moses also demanded to see God. Throughout history, Moses was the  only person that came closer to seeing God  and he was not allowed to see beyond His Body parts. God actually covered his face otherwise he would have been a dead man.

But,” he said, “you cannot see my face, for no one may see me and live.” Exodus 33:20(NIV)

In order to answer the questions that is on every man’s lips, the question of, ‘ how does God look like?’.  That is why God sent Jesus to reveal the nature and character of Him. Jesus is the perfect image of God. To study the life and ministry of Jesus is to know the real personality of God. So if you want to see God study the life of Jesus.

Christ is the visible image of the invisible God. He existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation, Col 1:15(NLT)

As for me, the study of Jesus way of life is enough for me to believe in the existence of God. I don’t need to see God physically. I have many testimonies in my life, family and people around me for validation. You know what, ‘I have met a lot of people face to face in my life, some have been nice while some have been not-so-nice. Believe me, I’m drawn more to people with character, and not how they look like’. What value is someone with a pretty face, but with nasty character. Jesus has shown us the way and nature of God and I’m satisfied with it. I don’t need to see God face to face-I will see Him when I get to heaven!

Jesus replied, “Philip, I have been with you all this time, and still you do not know Me? Anyone who has seen Me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?

Of course, God can choose to relate to us in a physical way so as to strengthen our faith. But this may not be everyone’s experience. For example, in order to make His existence real,  Jesus was revealed to Saul of Tarsus. A dramatic experience that changed his life forever.  Even on this occasion it was only SAUL that saw Him in the midst of the crowd. Likewise,  when Gideon and Thomas needed physical means to believe God, they were both responded to.

So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord!” But he said to them, “Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe.” John 20:25 (NIV)

God is a Spirit. We are spirit, soul and body. We can only genuinely connect with Him in our spirits. It must first and foremost be with our spirits. The soul and body will follow after. Therefore, our spiritual connection with God can only be by FAITH, which happens through our spirits. But the sin of Adam being the first man has corrupted the whole mankind spirits. But when a man give his life to JESUS CHRIST, his spirit will be renewed.  When that happened, then your spirit shall be in the right condition to connect to GOD, and there and then, He would be able to relate with you. If you have a genuine relationship with God by faith, you can never doubt His existence.

The world we live have made us to believe many things even though we don’t see those things physically. Particularly in the area of science. Things such as; Oxygen, winds, gravity, evolution,  e.t.c.  The likes of Oxygen, Winds and Gravity even though, can’t be seen with our physical eyes, but the effects of their manifestations can be seen by all. The same with God. The creations and the power of God is so evident in our time enough for us to believe that there is an intelligent being behind all these.  That intelligent being is GOD !

The wind blows where it wants to. You hear its sound, but you don’t know where it comes from or where it is going. That’s the way it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.” John 3:8 (ISV)

       TO BELIEVE IS TO SEE

The order is not ”’SEE and BELIEVE” but rather ”BELIEVE  AND SEE”. If God does not show up to you, you show up to HIM. When you relate to Him in faith and love, you can be sure that He will make Himself more evident in your life. The testimonies and your experience of change of character and attitude will not only confirm His supernatural power to you but also to those people around you.

Then Jesus said, “Did I not tell you that if you believe, you will see the glory of God?” John 11:40(NIV)

Rejecting Rejection

My writing is not to downplay the impact of rejection in the life of its victim, but rather to let them know that it’s not the end of the world. Undoubtedly the experience is devastating, disappointing and sometimes frustrating. I have experienced it many times and I believe we all have.  Since no one would want to spend the whole of their life moaning  the situation, I count it as a privilege to advise someone out there whose life might have been devastated by it through the word of God that has the answers to all human problems.

I don’t think there is anyone who suffered rejection more than Jesus in human history. He was rejected at every point. I like to think that it will be almost impossible for anyone to achieve anything in this world without having to deal with rejection at one point or the other in their life.  We all want to be loved and accepted by people….. which doesn’t happen all the time. No one enjoys rejection. And it could be gravely devastating  if not managed properly.

JESUS ALSO SUFFERED REJECTION

  1. FROM THE WOMB: Jesus suffered rejection from His mother’s womb. He was a victim of circumstances. The manner which His mother got pregnant was a matter of controversy. As a result, Joseph (His earthly father) rejected the pregnancy. Is your story similar to this? Were you told you are a product of an unwanted pregnancy or you have been told by your parents that they never plan for your birth or your birth was by mistake? I want you to know that, you are not born by mistake, you were born because God wants you here. Don’t live your life listening to those voices. Your arrival was planned by God.

And Joseph her husband, being a righteous man and not wanting to disgrace her, planned to send her away secretly. Matthew 1:19 (NAS)

  1. FROM HIS KINDRED : Jesus visited His hometown, where he grew up, the town where He has learnt his trade of carpentry while supporting Joseph. The Bible says he taught in the synagogue and they were stunned by His teachings. They were surprised by His transformation. Despite that, He could not do remarkable miracles among them with all is power. Why? They looked down on Him with disdain and rejection.

Then they scoffed, “He’s just a carpenter, the son of Mary and the brother of James, Joseph, Judas, and Simon. And his sisters live right here among us.” They were deeply offended and refused to believe in him. Mark 6:3 (NLT)

  1. FROM THE WHOLE NATION OF ISRAEL: Jesus not only suffered rejection on a personal level, but also on national level. The whole nation of Israel was against Him. They don’t believe nor accept Him as their Messiah in spite of every evidences and prophecies pointed toward Him. The Kings, the religious and political establishments opposed Him and rebuffed His claim.

He came to his own people, and even they rejected him. John 1 :11 (NLT)

  1. FROM HIS DISCIPLES: During Jesus’ ministry, the disciples grew in number, but at some point some of them walked away from Him. Is either they couldn’t cope with His meticulous way of living or they stopped believing in Him. Another time He was rejected was before the crucifixion. They all left Him to suffer alone. Even Peter the last man standing, denied Him in the end.

From this time many of his disciples turned back and no longer followed him. John 6:66 (NIV)

5. FROM GOD: God is Holy and will never condone sins from no one. On the cross, when all the sins of mankind were on Jesus as a sacrifice and judgement, God rejected Him at that moment.  The eyes of God are too pure to behold sins. Habakkuk 1:13

At about three o’clock, Jesus called out with a loud voice, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” which means “My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?” Matthew 27: 46

What am I saying here? I’m saying, rejection does not make anyone a failure, but could be that it’s not your time yet, or your opportunity will come somewhere else. Rejection should be seen as a motivation and not as setbacks.  If Jesus could make it in life by fulfilling His ministry despite all the harassment  and rejection, anyone can ! In fact you are in good company of great people.

AREAS WHERE YOU COULD BE REJECTED

  1. You could be rejected for carrying out evangelism: Our church was rejected by the local authority to evangelise at the city centre even though we have been doing it in the same place for about 9 years or thereabout.  Consequently, we turned our attention to other places in the town. We have been more efficient and happier afterwards.

  2. You could be rejected for admission into a higher institution or for an employment: If you don’t give up, you might be accepted back or got opportunity somewhere else. Don’t ever give up !

  3. You could be rejected among family, friends, groups, colleagues at work, name it!

HOW TO HANDLE REJECTION

PREPARE YOUR MIND FOR IT: We shall all experience rejection. It is a common denominator for us all. It’s not every time we’ll get what we want. A time will come when what/who we want doesn’t want us. Jesus prepared for it and He also prepared His disciples for it. He told them Peter will deny Him before crucifixion, He also told them they would be rejected by some people who will not welcome them into their house when he was sending them out for evangelism (Luke 22:33-34, Matt 10:14). It is a way of preparing their minds toward the eventuality so that they won’t be discouraged when it happens. Preparing our minds will help us to take it on the chin whenever it happens to us.

WALK AWAY:  Jesus commanded  His disciples to walk away from the scene of rejection. This instruction was given to them when He was sending them out for evangelism.  In other words, He asked them not to make a big deal out of it. Another time when He was refused to travel across Samaria, He never protest, He never fight them; He only walked away to use another town.

If anyone will not welcome you or listen to your words, leave that home or town and shake the dust off your feet. Matthew 10:14(NIV)

DON’T GIVE UP: Don’t be afraid to try again. If you try your best and you don’t succeed you try harder again.

TELL IT TO JESUS: Jesus was once a victim; He’s been there!  Open your heart sincerely to Him and tell him how you feel and He will give you your much needed comfort. You need to also know that God had seen your rejection long before it happens, and He would have made a provision of comfort and a way of ESCAPE for you. All you need to do is to tell it to Jesus and He will give you the right counsel and step to take. He will never leave you nor forsake you friends !!

He comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us. 2 Corinthians 1:4 (NLT)

 

If you have never received Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour, this is the right time to do so. You are not reading this post by accident.

You just require to confess your sins and accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour;

Who Is My Real Enemy?

Why can’t we apply the same principles that see God behind the scene of the person that give us something to Satan behind the one that did us wrong also ? We tend to see them as the enemy instead of focusing on Satan as the one behind the scene. Our fight should be against the Kingdom of darkness being rule of Satan. As believers, why is it that when people showered us with gifts we tend to see God behind the person ( we see it as a blessing from God, sometimes when we want to express deep appreciation to such person, they in turn ask us to thank God) but reverse is the case when someone does us wrong, we tend to see them as our enemy instead of Satan?

In the old testament, Nations sees other nations as an enemy not an individual in most cases. Back then they fight for territorial supremacy or to enslave.  Very rare to see an individual seeing another individual as an enemy. In most cases, individuals resolved the issue among themselves. Such is the case of Abraham and Lot, Esau and Jacob. Even though these people wronged each others, they never see themselves as eternal arch enemies. They pursued peace to resolve their grievances.  David had every opportunity to kill King Saul, but he refused even though he was advised by his men to do so. Whereas, the day Cain saw his brother Abel as an enemy, he killed him, but God was angry with him.

“Now’s your opportunity!” David’s men whispered to him. “Today the LORD is telling you, ‘I will certainly put your enemy into your power, to do with as you wish.'” So David crept forward and cut off a piece of the hem of Saul’s robe. 1 Samuel 24:4 (NLT)

So David restrained his men and did not let them kill Saul. After Saul had left the cave and gone on his way, 1 Samuel 24:7 (NLT)

 

JESUS REFUSED TO CALL FIRE DOWN FROM HEAVEN

Where is the doctrine of calling the fire over enemies come from? The only time Elijah called down fire, he called it over the altar of Baal, not on people (1 Kings 18: 38). Jesus who is our perfect example never called down fire over anyone even though he was advised to do that by His disciples. Jesus teachings are centred on believers loving their so called enemies. He never preached anywhere for them to be killed.

As the time approached for him to be taken up to heaven, Jesus resolutely set out for Jerusalem. And he sent messengers on ahead, who went into a Samaritan village to get things ready for him; but the people there did not welcome him, because he was heading for Jerusalem. When the disciples James and John saw this, they asked, “Lord, do you want us to call fire down from heaven to destroy them?” But Jesus turned and rebuked them. Then he and his disciples went to another village. As they were walking along the road, a man said to him, “I will follow you wherever you go.” Luke 9:51-57 (NIV)

 

The above scriptures shows us how Jesus handled rejection and offence. His desire was to pass through Samaritan village on his way to Jerusalem. This journey was CRUCIAL in His life and ministry, because He was about taken up to heaven. Here I can see the reason why frustration and anger set in for the disciples. His disciples advised Him to allow them call fire down from heaven to burn the villagers so that they can have easy access; they saw the villagers as their enemies-enemy of progress ! But Jesus refused the idea. Jesus is introducing a new doctrine here. The doctrine of peace. To allow peace to reign, He asked them to pass through another village. Therefore, it then means because Elijah did such things does not make it a perfect doctrine. Jesus must be our perfect example, if we call ourselves Christians.

 

SATAN IS THE CULPRIT NOT PEOPLE

We must make every effort to follow peace with all men. I mean all men  !!!. With the help of God and our positive mindset and attitude, it is possible. Remember, I am not saying you should make everyone your friends. We are not commanded to make everyone our friends. Even Jesus never called everybody His friends. He only called those who obey His words as friends ( John 15:14-15). The very moment you shifted your energy on confronting people as your enemies, you have missed the real perpetrator and trust me, Satan will be somewhere at the corner laughing at you. Satan only is your enemy ! Of course, like God, he uses human to perpetrate his evil acts, people are only being used as his host and some of them may not even know they are being used by him.  Some people though invited him into their lives knowingly or some gave invitation to him by the choices and actions they made.

 

     BIBLE VERSES ON SATAN AS THE ENEMY OF MAN

  1. And the great dragon was thrown down, the serpent of old who is called the devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him. Revelation 12:9

The Changing Face of the Kingdom of God

It is not uncommon in this age to see people who don’t like certain features of themselves to go extra mile spending a fortune to look like how they wished they would have been created. Of course it is not a bad idea if this is done to reconstruct accidental damage to a particular part of the body.  Cosmetic surgery is more acceptable and fashionable this day that even a child of seven  would like to have one. It is that bad !! Nevertheless, a few have become happier after it, whilst many have regretted it afterwards; due to permanent scars and defect left on them.  They do not know that until a man start seeing himself in the light of the WORD OF GOD, it will be almost impossible for one to appreciate ones body as a wonderful and perfect creation of God.

 

For no one can lay any foundation other than the one we already have–Jesus Christ(1 Cor 3:11 NLT)

 

Sadly, this kind of philosophy is now creeping into the body of Christ.  The end time church is finding it increasingly difficult to uphold sound doctrines. Scriptural truth of holiness is no more valuable and fashionable. Every church  has their own definition of how the Kingdom of God should look like.  Many ministers of the Gospel are doing or have done cosmetic surgeries  to their teachings and doctrines. A doctrine that has no fundamental truth of the Bible. Sometimes you wonder where they get them from !

 

For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking but of righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. (Rom 14:17 ESV)

 

    THE TRUE FACE OF THE KINGDOM

Jesus mission on earth is to introduce and bring about the Kingdom of God to the world. His birth and ministry  centred on that. Sometimes He will say, the Kingdom of God is at hand, sometimes, says, The Kingdom of God is here, sometimes says, the Kingdom of God is within you.

 

Before Jesus era, people used to see the Kingdom of God afar off in Heaven. They only see themselves closer to God when they go into the Synagogue or any other place of Worship. The Samaritan woman Jesus met at the well will shed more light on this. The woman said her generation worship God on the mountain and the Jews preferred Jerusalem, but Jesus told her a time will come when God can be worshipped anywhere. Which means the Kingdom of God does not answer to a place alone, but to the people themselves (John 4:19-21).

What am I saying here? Any place of worship where the three core values (Righteousness, Peace and Joy in the Holy Ghost) of the Kingdom are not being preached, taught, and encourage people to live, will be counter productive to what Jesus came to the world to accomplished.  If you are a preacher, preach it. If you are a teacher, teach it, if you are a believer, talk about it to others. We are to live it and talk about  it.

 

       THE  ROBE  OF  JESUS

The kingdom of God is about, ‘ RIGHTEOUSNESS, PEACE and JOY IN THE HOLY GHOST‘.
Jesus Robe is seamless, woven in one piece. It is knitted together. We are  not to tear it up into one- sided sermon/teachings.  Show me where the righteousness of God, His peace and the joy in the Holy Ghost is, then I will show you where the Kingdom of God is.

When the soldiers had crucified Jesus, they divided his clothes among the four of them. They also took his robe, but it was seamless, woven in one piece from top to bottom. So they said, “Rather than tearing it apart, let’s throw dice for it.” This fulfilled the Scripture that says, “They divided my garments among themselves and threw dice for my clothing.” So that is what they did. John 19:23-24 (NLT)

From the above scriptures, we can see that the Soldiers were able to tear Jesus clothes into pieces , but not with His robe. They couldn’t tear the robe. Because the robe of Jesus is righteousness, holiness and the love of the Father. It is the Robe we must all wear; it is the only heavenly garment that I know.

  THE SCEPTRE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS

Righteousness is the ruling symbol of the kingdom of God. The banner of  righteousness  must be raised in our lives and also encourage others to live the same.  Of course, being righteous is a gift of God received by grace through accepting Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour, still we are to walk in righteousness. The church must continue to admonish its members on this, and not to be distracted into worldliness. Likewise believers must live their lives to maintain the robe of righteousness from being wrinkled or blemished. Sadly, many churches are no more preaching on Holiness. Many are distracted to serve tables and this shouldn’t be.

But about the Son he says, “Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever; a scepter of justice will be the scepter of your kingdom. You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions by anointing you with the oil of joy.” ( Hebrews 1:8-9 NIV)

     THE  PRINCE  OF  PEACE

The Kingdom of God is being rule by Jesus, the Prince of Peace. Pursuit of peace is becoming unfashionable to the body of Christ. We are now being taught to purse revenge or pray for our enemies to die.  The idea of who our real enemies are, have been distorted. We see people more as our enemies than the demons and the forces of darkness. A strategy Satan plays so well to distract the body of Christ from confronting him. He will tempt you to see your in-laws, parents, neighbour, etc, as your enemies. Whereas these are the people God commanded us to love. The only adversary Bible says we have is Satan.  A true believer of JESUS CHRIST will pursue peace like his master. Jesus is called the Prince of peace. If Jesus had seen Peter as His enemy when he rebuffed the idea of Jesus being suffered, killed and resurrected ( The crux of His mission on earth), rather than Satan, Jesus would have missed resisting the real perpetrator.

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: 1 Pet 5:8 (KJV)

 

   THE JOY IN THE HOLY GHOST

Until a believer start seeing himself or herself as a carrier of Joy (because the Holy Ghost dwell in us), he or she will be running helter skelter looking for joy that is not missing. In the Kingdom of God, there are many things to be joyful about. There is  a joy of salvation, joy to carry us through lives, and the feeling of joy that we shall one day live forever with God. Nothing else can satisfy us beyond the provision of the Kingdom. In fact, we are known by the unbeliever to be HAPPY HAPPY PEOPLE. We don’t need professional comedians to make us happy. Likewise, we don’t need Pastors that play on people’s emotions to caress the itching ears of worshippers. The source of our Joy can only be in Jesus Christ alone !

Which one is you in the dragnet?

The most common occupation in Jesus day was farming and fishing. As a result, most of the parables of Jesus Christ are in this context. Therefore, anytime he told a parable, they can easily relate to it. However, the understanding of Jesus parables in literal form is not limited to the Jews since agriculture is a global practice. Consequently make it a global wisdom to be understood. For example, in Nigeria and most of Africa countries,  agriculture used to be the major source of income and the mainstay of the National economy before the advent of the mineral resources. Sadly, the reverse is the case now due to over dependence on mineral resources i.e Petroleum.

 

         THE PARABLE OF THE DRAGNET

4“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a dragnet that was cast into the sea and gathered some of every kind, 48 which, when it was full, they drew to shore; and they sat down and gathered the good into vessels, but threw the bad away. 49 So it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come forth, separate the wicked from among the just, 50 and cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth.” Matt 13:47-50 (NKJV)

          MATTHEW CHAPTER THIRTEEN

This parable is the last parable told by Jesus in the book of Matthew chapter thirteen. I think this chapter could otherwise be called the CHAPTER OF PARABLES in my own opinion. These parables tell a lot about what constitutes the kingdom of God. The understanding of these parables will help us to understand some situations and people in the kingdom, and the role we must  play in making it HEALTHY.

 

Literal meaning of the  PARABLE of the DRAGNET

A dragnet is of  great length, weighted by lead and designed to sweep the bottom of the sea, gathering fish in masses. Two boats would drag this net between them, sweeping a section of the Sea, after which the sailors would haul the net to shore. During fishing, during this process the hope of the fishermen is to catch THE GOOD FISH only. Despite using the effective fishing method still the fishermen could not be selective while catching the fish, the catch is always a MISMATCH. Meaning, not all the catch will be of COMMERCIAL VALUE, nor good for eating (Lev. 11:10). Which will then call for a daunting time of separation of the bad from the good ones. The bad ones are thrown back into the sea.  Likewise is the story of the Kingdom of God.

 

Spiritual meaning of the PARABLE of the DRAGNET

This parable is used by Jesus to tell us that whenever the dragnet of the Gospel is being used, it captures all kinds of people into the Kingdom. Not only does it capture people of all races and nationalities, but it also captures the good and the bad. The good are those who believe the Gospel and have their sins forgiven and Christ’s righteousness imputed to them. While the bad are  those who do not believe the Gospel and are thus condemned by their sins.

 

INTERPRETATION OF THE PARABLE

THE FISHERMEN:

Every genuine believer is a fisherman. We are called to catch men. This is our primary assignment. The word of God is our tool. We are to be equipped by it. We have the responsibility to tell others about the Kingdom of God. We are to be Like Andrew, who went and tell his brother about Jesus.

 

The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother Simon and tell him, “We have found the Messiah” (that is, the Christ). John 1:14 (NIV)

 

When Jesus Christ called Simon and Andrew, He categorically told them that He will make them ‘FISHERS OF MEN’ (Matt 4:19). Them being fishermen knew exactly what He meant. They knew they would be catching the soul of men into the Kingdom of Light from that of Darkness. We all have the same responsibilities. The main purpose of our calling as Children of God is to win souls for Christ. We have the most effective dragnet of the Gospel. This World is a World of fish, but until we launch the Dragnet of the Gospel, we aren’t catching any fish!

 

Now when he had ceased speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a catch. Luke 5:4 (KJV)

 

DRAGNET :

The Dragnet is the Gospel of Salvation preached to bring everyone into the Kingdom of God. (Mark 16:15-16)The Gospel of Jesus Christ is the dragnet. No one enters the Kingdom without the word of God. It is the word of God preached to us and our acceptance of it that makes us to become the citizens of the Kingdom. We are all born by the incorruptible WORD OF GOD. Each time we preach the Gospel we are throwing the DRAGNET.

 

For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God. 1 Pet 1:23(NIV)

 

FISH :

The FISH are different categories of people in the Kingdom of God: When the dragnet net is being used to catch fish, it draws all kinds of fish along with it. This is where it calls for concern. Not everyone in the Kingdom of God here now will make it to heaven. It will be sad to be associated with the Kingdom of God here on earth and missed out on the day of reckoning. This is why we all believers must check ourselves and examine our walk with God thoroughly. No one will make it to Heaven by mistake or any error of judgement.

 

                       MOTIVES DETERMINE THE MISSION

Many people are in the Kingdom of God for different reasons. We are attracted to it for different  reasons. But God is interested in people who are in His Kingdom for one reason……. Which is to love and serve Him in truth. Acknowledgement of this fact should give us the understanding that not everyone in a Church is actually genuinely saved. Many are there for their own reasons. A good example is Simon the sorcerer who pretended to be a genuine believer (Acts 8: 9-25).  It then becomes the responsibility of the church leaders  and brethren to help nurture such people to the right path of salvation.  At least we will know we have done our parts should they end up on the other side of Heaven when being separated.

 

For the time has come for judgment, and it must begin with God’s household. And if judgment begins with us, what terrible fate awaits those who have never obeyed God’s Good News? 1 Peter 4:17 (NLT)

 

SEA SHORE :

The SEA SHORE is the time of reckoning with God: At the sea shore the fishermen  separates the different kinds of fish in the net. Those with high commercial value from the rest. At the END OF AGE, same is the way God will separate kinds of people in His kingdom. A time is coming that God will do the separation. We can all claim to be citizens of the Kingdom of God now, but God knows who are His.

 

Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity. 2 Tim 2:19(KJV)

 

But if you are an unbeliever (not yet born again) and you are reading this, please give your life to Christ. If God would judge people claim to be in His Kingdom, how much more you that is outside of His Kingdom. To be in His Kingdom, all you need to do is to give your life to Jesus as your Lord and Saviour and genuinely serve Him for the rest of your life.

The Parable of the Barren Fig Tree

6 And he told this parable: “A man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard, and he came seeking fruit on it and found none. And he said to the vinedresser, ‘Look, for three years now I have come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and I find none. Cut it down. Why should it use up the ground?’And he answered him, ‘Sir, let it alone this year also, until I dig around it and put on manure. Then if it should bear fruit next year, well and good; but if not, you can cut it down.’” Luke 13:6-9 (ESV)

The above is an experience of a disappointed vineyard owner. He was so disappointed to the extent that he wanted the tree cut down. This parable was told by Jesus to buttress the need for the righteous (chosen ones) to continually have a repentant heart and not to see themselves better than others BUT RATHER TO SEE THEMSELVES AS PEOPLE ENJOYING THE GRACE OF GOD.  ”Or those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them, do you think that they were worse sinners than all other men who dwelt in Jerusalem? I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish.” (Luke 13:4-5). I think it is high time we Christians did a reality check on our walk with God. Time to examine our individual life as prescribed by the Bible.  My writing is not about judging others, but rather to point everyone into the right way and right living in the Kingdom of Heaven.

There are many places in the Bible where God likens His Children to a tree, yes a TREE.  Any time an object is used figuratively to represent the righteous, it is because there are good features for us learn about the object. Little wonder the believers are not liken to a pig and dog because of their behavioural patterns. “Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces(Matt 7:6). Although I’m not saying both animals aren’t good by nature, but to buttress what they mean spiritually.

To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified. Isa 61:3 (KJV)

Like other investment, when a fruit bearing tree is planted, it is expected to bear fruits. Nothing more, nothing less !!. Good as the leaves might also be of importance for other needs, the utmost dividends the owner expects is its fruits.The leaves might be good to have on a tree, but a farmer goes home disappointed with an empty basket if he found no fruits. It is high time we took a stock of our lives on what we are producing. Otherwise God will be disappointed in us. It is time to check if we are still in the faith or out of it.  The question is, If God should pay you a visit will He find fruit at all?  Will He be happy with your way of life or  be disappointed? Likewise, If Jesus should come back today, will He find you rapturable?

“To the angel of the church in Sardis write: These are the words of him who holds the seven spirits of God and the seven stars. I know your deeds; you have a reputation of being alive, but you are dead. Rev 3:1 (NIV)

There are works that are dead works. Meaning, activities that are reputable but are not practised in a godly manner and precepts. You can be a Pastor and still not have fruit. You can be a Bible Teacher or a member of a Choir and still not bear fruits. Though those activities are good and important, it is not about what we do for people to see that matter, but the genuineness of our hearts and the motives behind them. If our Church activities is primarily to please men or show off, it is what the Bible called dead works. If the only time you pray is when you are in the gathering of believers without you having your own personal prayer time with God, sorry, it’s also dead works “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full ( Matt 6:5 NIV)

Not everyone who says to me, “Lord, Lord,” will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. On that day many will say to me, “Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?” And then will I declare to them, “I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.” (Matt 7:21-23)

God pleasers are fruit bearing Christians  I believe if we remain to be mindful and conscious of what God is expected of us, it will help us to always want to please Him.  A tree bearing fruit is a type of a believer that maintained a repentant heart: ready to forgive others, ready to ask for forgiveness. Repentance is not only at the point of salvation, but a lifetime attitude. If this is your attitude, you are a tree bearing fruit.

Don’t Get Involved in Premature Celebrations

I returned and saw under the Sun, that no footballer/team celebrate until they score or win. Athletes are taught their whole lives to carry on running through the finish line, but few had been a victim of celebrating prematurely, only to find out they never score/win. They are impatient to wait till  the  ball crosses the goal line or declare a scorer/winner by the referees/umpires. Beware of people who overly celebrate your achievement by making you feel you’ve arrived. They could either be flatterers, men pleasers or using you for their advantage( Gal.1:10). Don’t let people overly celebrate you prematurely. Neither celebrate too early yourself…..when things are coming together for you, learn to stay humble.

Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself to have attained this. Instead, I am single-minded: Forgetting the things that are behind and reaching out for the things that are ahead, Phil 3:13(NET)

 

Regardless of what you have achieved so far, be it spiritually or physically, there are many more you can still achieve.  At old age, God  told Joshua, he can still achieve much more. When Joshua had grown old, the LORD said to him, “You are now very old, and there are still very large areas of land to be taken over (Jos 13:1). At the age of 85 yrs old, Caleb was still fired up to fight in a battle (Jos 14: 11-14). Likewise oftentimes, Jesus refused people from announcing His  achievement to others( Mark 7:36, Matt 8:4, Luke 5:14). A way of  avoiding  people celebrating Him too early. At a point they were so excited that they wanted to make Him their KING, but He refused and WITHDREW Himself from such people (John 6:15). Jesus knew that His race was not finished until crucifixion and resurrection.

When the people saw the sign that Jesus had performed, they began to say, “Truly this is the prophet who is to come into the world.” 15. Realizing they were about to come and make Him king by force, Jesus withdrew again to a mountain by Himself. John 6:14-15(BS)

But when the right time came, lo and behold, he accepted the celebration and honour.  On His way to the cross, He was HIGHLY CELEBRATED and He never stopped them. That time, He was a moment away from finishing His course and mission on earth. He delightfully made a MAJESTIC entry to Jerusalem and the whole city went agog.  Matt 21:8-10

On the other hand, David fell into this trap, he was celebrated by women after his victory over Goliath. Of course he was not part of the crowd chanting the songs,  but maybe he could have stopped them one way or the other, or made his case known to King Saul of his discontentment about the songs .  Since this celebration was done prematurely, it stirred up the anger of his boss, King Saul. David’s victory over Goliath was a stepping stone to the PALACE (place of destiny), and need not to be overly celebrated until he ascends the throne.  Premature celebration could be inciting or create unnecessary attention to yourself.

It happened as they were coming, when David returned from killing the Philistine, that the women came out of all the cities of Israel, singing and dancing, to meet King Saul, with tambourines, with joy and with musical instruments. 7 The women sang as they played, and said, “Saul has slain his thousands, And David his ten thousands.”8 Then Saul became very angry, for this saying displeased him; and he said, “They have ascribed to David ten thousands, but to me they have ascribed thousands. Now what more can he have but the kingdom?”…1 Sam 18: 6-8.

 

What am I saying here, am I saying its not good to receive compliment from people? No, No, No! Rather I want you to know that there is always room for improvement no matter your achievement. The compliment of men should be taking lightly and not to be taken as if you’ve arrived. Let it be a MOTIVATION to improve more on yourself to be much more better . The race is not finished until you breathe your last breath. You have not arrived, you are still on a journey !
